As anticipation builds for the new NHL season, the fantasy hockey community is also gearing up. Fresh off their second consecutive Stanley Cup championship, the Florida Panthers set the bar, while other teams across the league have been busy making moves to prepare for the 2025-26 season.
Notable offseason events included the New York Islanders making Matthew Schaefer the first overall pick in the draft, the Vegas Golden Knights acquiring Mitch Marner, and veteran Brent Burns signing with the Colorado Avalanche. These and other transactions mean plenty of familiar faces will be in new environments.

Understanding the Scoring
These rankings project potential fantasy point production throughout the entire 2025-26 NHL season, utilizing the standard ESPN Fantasy scoring settings. For skaters, points are awarded as follows: goals are worth 2 points, assists 1 point, shots and hits 0.1 points each, and blocked shots and special-teams points (power-play or short-handed goals/assists) each contribute 0.5 points. Goaltender scoring includes 4 points for a win, 1 point for an overtime loss, 3 points for a shutout, 0.2 points per save, but subtracts 2 points for every goal against.
