Held in Buffalo on Saturday, the 2025 NHL Scouting Combine provided all 32 teams a final chance to evaluate the upcoming draft class ahead of the NHL Draft in Los Angeles.
The combine primarily features physical fitness tests, alongside individual meetings between prospects and team representatives.
Below are the results from each drill, including a brief description and the top 10 finishers.
Grip Strength

In the Grip Strength test, athletes adjust a dynamometer to fit their hand, extend their arm fully, and squeeze as hard as they can. The test is performed on both the left and right hands.

Aerobic Fitness (VO2 Max)

Athletes` aerobic fitness – the efficiency of their cardiovascular and respiratory systems in supplying oxygen to muscles – is assessed by measuring the amount of oxygen consumed during maximal exercise, utilizing volume determination and analysis of expired air.

Wingspan

For the Wingspan measurement, the athlete extends arms straight out to the sides. The distance is measured from the tip of one middle finger to the tip of the other, recorded to the nearest quarter inch.

Standing Long Jump

In the Standing Long Jump, the athlete stands with feet slightly apart behind a line. Using an arm swing for momentum, the athlete jumps forward as far as possible.

Jump Station (AccuPower Dual Force Plate System)

An AccuPower Dual Force Plate system precisely measures the 3D forces athletes generate during movements relevant to hockey. It also records synchronized video from two high-speed cameras, overlaying force vectors. This provides immediate feedback on movement efficiency, physical performance, and potential injury risks.
Two types of jumps are performed: Vertical Jump (with arm swing) and No Arm Jump (hands on hips). Athletes perform three maximum-effort vertical jumps for each type, resting 10 seconds between attempts. The best jump height from the three attempts for each type is recorded.

Bench Press

Using a standard bench press, athletes lift 50 percent of their body weight. Lying on their back with a shoulder-width grip, they start with arms fully extended, lower the bar to the chest, pause briefly, and push it back up as quickly as possible to full extension.
Players perform three repetitions at maximum velocity, pausing between each. A device measures bar velocity and power output.

Pro Agility Test

The 5-10-5 yard shuttle (or 15-30-15 feet) evaluates multi-directional speed, agility, and overall body reaction and control. Each player completes one sequence starting to the right and one starting to the left.

Pull-Ups

In the Pull-Ups test, the athlete performs as many consecutive pull-ups as possible while maintaining correct technique.

Wingate Cycle Ergometer Test

For the Wingate test, the athlete warms up by cycling at low resistance for two minutes. Upon receiving the start command, the player performs specific seated intervals.
