The Abbotsford Canucks, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, are heading to the championship series.
Abbotsford secured their spot in the Calder Cup Final by defeating the Texas Stars 4-2 in Game 6 of the Western Conference Final on Sunday.
In the decisive Game 6, Abbotsford overcame a two-goal deficit, scoring four consecutive goals, two of which came from Arshdeep Bains, to punch their ticket to the Final.
Goaltender Arturs Silovs contributed to the victory by making 23 saves on 25 shots.
Their opponent in the Calder Cup Final will be the Charlotte Checkers, the AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers. Charlotte reached the final series by sweeping the Laval Rocket in the Eastern Conference Finals.
This marks the first time since 2008 that a single NHL organization has both its NHL team (Vancouver Canucks) and its AHL affiliate (Abbotsford Canucks) competing in their respective championship finals (Stanley Cup Final and Calder Cup Final).
The first game of the Calder Cup Final is scheduled for Friday in Charlotte.
