Renowned ice hockey star Alex Ovechkin has entered into an agreement with a major Russian technology firm to create a cinematic production, which could be a movie, series, or documentary, chronicling his illustrious career in the National Hockey League.
The collaboration was officially announced by Yandex and its popular streaming service, Kinopoisk.
Earlier this year, Ovechkin surpassed Wayne Gretzky`s all-time career goals record, having accumulated 897 goals as he approaches the final season of his current contract with the Washington Capitals. The celebrated forward, who will turn 40 next month, and his representatives have granted exclusive rights to Yandex`s production division, Plus Studio, to adapt his life story and career for the screen.
As part of this comprehensive deal, the Moscow-born athlete, who started his professional journey in the Russian league (now known as the KHL), is also slated to appear in promotional campaigns and serve as a brand ambassador for Yandex.
Ovechkin has spent his entire NHL career with the Washington Capitals, ever since they selected him as the first overall pick in the 2004 draft, making his league debut in 2005.
Since then, he has consistently been the emblematic figure of the franchise, assuming the captaincy in January 2010. His leadership culminated in 2018, when he earned the playoff MVP award while guiding the team to its historic first Stanley Cup championship.
