Alexander Volkanovski Expresses Concerns Over UFC Featherweight Contender Selection Process

UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski has voiced his dissatisfaction with the methodology employed by the promotion in determining his next challengers. A dominant force in the featherweight division, Volkanovski is renowned for his consistent willingness to face the best, yet he questions the fairness and logic of recent matchmaking decisions.

Following recent events, potential challengers like the undefeated Movsar Evloev and Jean Silva have emerged. Volkanovski, a fighter who prides himself on taking on top-tier competition, feels the UFC may be overlooking the most deserving contenders, a strategy he openly critiques.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Volkanovski emphasized his consistent desire to battle the division’s elite. He questioned the ongoing trend of not facing the clear number one contender, stating, “How many times can I just keep not fighting the No. 1 contender?” He highlighted his belief that Movsar Evloev, after defeating a highly ranked opponent, should be the undisputed top challenger.

While acknowledging he would face whomever the UFC puts in front of him, even someone like Jean Silva, Volkanovski stressed the importance of fighting the most deserving contenders for his legacy. “I look at fighting the best,” he asserted. “Then if we talk legacy, who do we want? I want the undefeated guy that’s beat all the top guys because I know that beating him is going to look very good on my resume.” He expressed strong confidence in his ability to defeat any opponent, including Silva, Lerone Murphy, Movsar, and Lopes, but underscored his preference for challenging undefeated fighters to further solidify his championship legacy.
