Here`s a recap of the most interesting events from the Kontinental Hockey League`s game day on October 8th. Avtomobilist and Dynamo Moscow secured confident victories, while Sergei Shumakov signed a contract with Lada.
Avtomobilist Extends Two Streaks – Their Own and Their Opponent`s
A tense match took place in Yekaterinburg between Avtomobilist and SKA. The scoreboard remained untouched until the second period when Sergei Sapego put the Army Men ahead. However, about ten minutes later, the Ural team equalized with a power-play goal from Egor Chernikov. In overtime, Chernikov once again played a crucial role, assisting Roman Gorbunov for the winning goal, securing Avtomobilist`s fifth consecutive victory. This impressive streak comes despite several key players being sidelined due to injuries for Nikolai Zavarukhin`s team. SKA, though earning a point, suffered their fifth straight defeat.
Dynamo Moscow Undefeated at Home Against Salavat Yulaev for Five Years
Dynamo Moscow hosted Salavat Yulaev from Ufa, who had won their previous two matches. However, their winning streak came to an end as Alexei Kudashov`s team scored twice within a minute in the first period, taking firm control of the game. Notably, Cedric Paquette netted the second goal while Dynamo was shorthanded. Salavat Yulaev fought hard and managed to reduce the deficit, but then conceded two more goals, settling the outcome of the match. The Ufa team has not been able to defeat the “White-Blues” in Moscow for five years, with their last away victory against Dynamo dating back to November 14, 2020.
Shumakov Returns to KHL
Lada announced the signing of forward Sergei Shumakov, who previously played for the Togliatti club. Currently, Lada is facing difficulties, sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference standings and having endured a nine-game losing streak in September. The club is likely hoping that Shumakov`s creativity and skill will help improve their performance. In his previous stint with Lada during the 2023/2024 season, he had a solid showing, accumulating 27 (15 goals, 12 assists) points in 56 games.
Scoring Streaks
Two players extended their personal scoring streaks: Maxim Comtois of Dynamo Moscow stretched his streak to four games (2 goals, 3 assists), while Avtomobilist forward Roman Gorbunov extended his to six games (5 goals, 2 assists).
