BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres have signed restricted free agent defenseman Bowen Byram to a two-year contract valued at $12.5 million, successfully avoiding arbitration late Monday night.
This contract carries an annual salary cap hit of $6.25 million through the 2026-27 NHL season. Byram, a potential candidate for a trade or offer sheet from another team, saw the Sabres choose to file for salary arbitration earlier in the month.
The 24-year-old defenseman recently completed his first full season with Buffalo, setting career bests with 31 assists, 38 points, and 116 blocked shots over 82 games. He was acquired by the Sabres from the Colorado Avalanche at the 2024 trade deadline in exchange for forward Casey Mittelstadt.
Byram contributed nine points during the Avalanche`s 2022 Stanley Cup championship run. Since entering the league in 2021, he has accumulated 33 goals and 89 assists across 273 regular-season and playoff games.
