TKO Group Holdings, the parent company overseeing UFC and WWE, is increasingly viewed as a significant contender capable of disrupting Ticketmaster’s firm grip on the live event ticketing market. A recent antitrust settlement involving Live Nation has paved the way for competitors such as StubHub and SeatGeek to expand their presence amidst evolving market dynamics.
Antitrust Settlement Reshapes Ticketing Rules
Live Nation recently resolved an antitrust lawsuit initiated by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2024. The agreement, pending court approval, includes a $280 million payment to the plaintiff states and mandates that Ticketmaster permit rivals like SeatGeek to sell tickets through specific parts of its platform. This settlement also grants venues greater freedom to utilize alternative ticketing providers such as StubHub and SeatGeek, limiting exclusive contracts with Ticketmaster to a maximum of four years. Furthermore, service fees are now capped at 15% of the ticket price.
Considering Live Nation’s control over 460 venues and Ticketmaster’s approximately 80% share of primary ticketing, these changes are substantial. The agreement specifically abolishes requirements for artists performing at Live Nation venues to exclusively use Ticketmaster, fostering a more competitive environment.
TKO’s Strategic Position in Live Events
Since its formation in 2023 through the merger of UFC and WWE, TKO has established a dedicated Live Events Strategy Team. This team focuses on optimizing scheduling, ticketing, and fan experiences across both premier brands. This strategic approach has led to impressive financial growth; WWE’s live event revenue surged to $82.5 million in Q3 2025, a notable increase from $51.1 million in the previous year. Following the merger, ticket prices for WWE’s North American televised events have nearly doubled, showing higher averages in 2025 data from Pollstar. Ticket distribution has also expanded significantly, with approximately 11,500 tickets now sold per RAW and SmackDown show.
TKO consistently reports strong fan demand, prompting WWE President Nick Khan to outline plans for further price increases in regions where venue capacity remains consistently high. The robust demand is also evident in strong pre-sales for European tours and the highly anticipated 2026 Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia.
StubHub and SeatGeek Emerge as Key Players
StubHub actively features resale tickets for prominent UFC events, such as Fight Night: Evolev vs. Murphy at The O2 Arena, with upper-tier seats starting from £320. SeatGeek, explicitly identified as a direct beneficiary in the antitrust settlement, draws users with innovative features like DealScore, which compares prices to offer the best options beyond Ticketmaster. While Ticketmaster maintains its role as the primary official seller for UFC and WWE events, the intense demand for TKO’s shows—which consistently sell out arenas—is increasingly driving significant activity on secondary markets such as StubHub and SeatGeek.
The Live Nation settlement has broad implications for all live events, including TKO’s packed schedule of over 300 WWE shows and 40-45 UFC fight cards annually. Venues like the T-Mobile Arena, which has extended its partnership with TKO through 2030, now have the flexibility to choose ticketing partners from a wider array of options, free from restrictive exclusive contracts. TKO is also actively pursuing up to $1 billion in various partnerships, including potential agreements within the ticketing sector, highlighting its strategic ambitions to capture more revenue from its booming live events business.
This settlement offers TKO’s UFC events a direct pathway to challenge Ticketmaster’s market dominance. Venues that host TKO’s frequent events, such as the T-Mobile Arena, can now consider SeatGeek or StubHub for ticket sales, free from the constraints of long-term exclusive agreements. With TKO’s live event revenue reaching new peaks and WWE ticket prices doubling since the 2023 merger, there is growing speculation that TKO might develop its own in-house ticketing platforms or forge deeper alliances with Ticketmaster’s rivals to maximize earnings from its hundreds of annual shows, especially with ongoing expansions into international markets.
