Arturs Silovs` tenure with the Vancouver Canucks has concluded.
The Canucks sent the goaltender to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday, receiving forward Chase Stillman and a 2027 fourth-round draft selection in return.
During his 21 regular-season appearances for the AHL`s Abbotsford Canucks, Silovs posted a 14-5-1 record, a .908 save percentage, and a career-best 2.41 goals-against average. In his 10 NHL contests with Vancouver, his record was 2-6-1 with a 3.65 GAA and a .861 save percentage.
The 24-year-old netminder played a crucial role in Abbotsford`s run to the Calder Cup championship. He went 16-7 in the AHL playoffs with a 2.01 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage, recording five shutouts. He also became only the fourth goaltender ever to be named playoff MVP.
However, with Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen already under long-term contracts, Silovs` opportunity to secure a regular spot in the NHL lineup with Vancouver was unclear.
“We want to express our gratitude to Arturs for his contributions to the organization, particularly his help in guiding Abbotsford to the Calder Cup victory,” General Manager Patrik Allvin said in a statement. “We decided to provide him with a chance elsewhere because we believe we possess strong goaltending depth across the NHL, AHL, and development levels. The addition of a future draft pick and a forward provides further organizational depth.”
Stillman divided his season between the AHL`s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Utica Comets, accumulating 12 points over 65 games. He was originally a first-round pick (2021) of the New Jersey Devils.
