
The Washington Capitals announced on Thursday the acquisition of forward Justin Sourdif from the Florida Panthers. The trade involves the Capitals sending a 2026 second-round draft pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick to the Panthers.
Sourdif, a 23-year-old forward, spent the entirety of the 2024–25 season with the Charlotte Checkers, Florida`s American Hockey League affiliate. During his time in Charlotte, he registered 34 points, consisting of 16 goals and 18 assists, across 43 regular-season games.
He proved to be a valuable contributor in the postseason as well, adding 10 points (four goals, six assists) over 18 playoff contests. Sourdif helped the Checkers reach the Calder Cup Final, where they were ultimately defeated by the Abbotsford Canucks in Game 6.
Throughout his AHL career, Sourdif has participated in 149 games, accumulating a total of 96 points from 35 goals and 61 assists.
The player, who originates from Richmond, British Columbia, has made four appearances in the National Hockey League thus far. Notably, one of these appearances occurred last season, during which he scored his first career NHL goal.
Sourdif was originally selected by the Florida Panthers in the third round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, chosen 87th overall.
