Maya Gebala, a 12-year-old victim of the tragic school shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia on February 10th, is set to receive significant support from UFC CEO Dana White. The incident, which resulted in six fatalities and 27 injuries, left Maya in critical condition.
Currently undergoing intensive care at Vancouver Children’s Hospital, Maya has faced numerous surgeries and complications. Her family recently revealed that Dana White, upon learning of the situation, offered to cover all medical expenses. This comprehensive assistance includes transportation to a highly-regarded hospital in Los Angeles once Maya is stable enough to travel, along with accommodation for her family.
Maya’s mother, Cia Edmonds, shared an update on social media, expressing cautious optimism about her daughter’s condition. She noted positive developments, such as an abscess that hasn’t grown and discussions about Maya potentially leaving the ICU. Edmonds spoke of her immense pride in Maya’s resilience, calling her “such a fighter.” She confirmed Dana White’s generous offer, highlighting the hope it brings for Maya’s future stability and recovery, allowing access to advanced care and resources for her long-term needs. The family also mentioned that the UFC had acknowledged Maya’s struggle by mentioning her name in the ring.
