NEWARK, N.J. – The New Jersey Devils have officially announced the signing of veteran forwards Kevin Rooney and Luke Glendening to professional tryout (PTO) contracts. These agreements were finalized on Friday, signaling the team`s ongoing efforts to strengthen its roster in anticipation of the upcoming season.
Kevin Rooney, now 32 years old, is making a return to the franchise where his NHL journey began. He first joined the Devils during the 2016-17 season, contributing 10 goals and nine assists across 95 games during parts of four seasons with New Jersey. Following his initial tenure, Rooney played a season with the New York Rangers before spending the last three years within the Calgary Flames organization. Throughout his entire career, he has accumulated a total of 32 goals and 28 assists over 330 NHL games.

As an accomplished center, his career statistics highlight his consistency with 83 goals and 83 assists in 864 games over 12 seasons, which also included stints with the Detroit Red Wings and the Dallas Stars.
Beyond the forward lines, the Devils have also extended PTO opportunities to two goaltenders: Georgi Romanov and Adam Scheel. Romanov, who debuted in the NHL in April 2024, has a record of 0-6-0 with a 3.53 goals-against average in 10 appearances for the San Jose Sharks over the past two seasons.
Adam Scheel, the other goaltending hopeful, demonstrated strong form last season with the Colorado Eagles in the AHL, where he posted a record of 10-2-2 with a 2.62 goals-against average across 14 games.
