Dillon Danis directed criticism towards Canelo Alvarez after the Mexican boxer secured a unanimous decision victory over William Scull.
In a recent event held at the Anb Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Alvarez, widely regarded as a future Hall of Famer, successfully defended his WBA, WBC, WBO, and Ring Magazine super middleweight world titles. He also added the IBF belt to his collection.
Subsequently, it was confirmed that Alvarez is scheduled to face Terence Crawford on September 12th at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
However, this significant announcement about an upcoming super-fight was not enough to divert the attention of Dillon Danis, known as one of MMA`s most outspoken figures, from expressing his dissatisfaction with the perceived lack of excitement in Alvarez`s latest bout.
Dillon Danis Claims Canelo Alvarez`s Fight Was Unwatchable
The fight against William Scull largely failed to meet expectations. Scull displayed minimal offensive output, opting for constant movement around the ring without delivering any impactful punches.
Canelo Alvarez acted as the aggressor throughout the contest but appeared to do only what was necessary to secure the win.
Following the event, Dillon Danis took to social media to air his grievances, criticizing not only Alvarez but also the sport of boxing in general.
He posted a tweet stating: “Canelo just solidified my point. MMA is way more exciting than boxing. The supposed king of boxing went 12 rounds with a mannequin from JCPenney and still put everyone to sleep.”
Danis added: “At this point, boxing ain’t a sport anymore, it’s a sleep aid with ring lights.”
Danis Also Criticizes Devin Haney
The controversial MMA personality is never shy about making bold statements online. Earlier, Danis suggested that Anthony Smith should abandon his `Lionheart` nickname following a tough loss.
Therefore, it is not surprising that he would also target Canelo. Alvarez isn`t the only prominent figure in boxing that Danis criticized recently.
On Friday evening, a notable boxing event took place in Times Square, but the fights themselves reportedly fell short of delivering excitement.
In a strong statement, Danis specifically mocked Devin Haney with a cutting remark.
