Interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has named a specific knockout victory as the most significant of his career. He currently holds the interim title while waiting for a potential unification fight against undisputed champion Jon Jones. UFC CEO Dana White has guaranteed this fight will happen sometime in 2025. As he waits for his next appearance, Aspinall recently reflected on his most impactful win in the UFC.
Tom Aspinall reflects on Sergei Pavlovich KO
Aspinall`s standout knockout occurred in November 2023 at UFC 295. He accepted the fight against Sergei Pavlovich on extremely short notice. At the time, Pavlovich was considered a top contender due to an impressive streak of six consecutive first-round knockout wins. Despite the challenging circumstances, Aspinall defeated Pavlovich in just 69 seconds to win the interim championship.
Discussing his favorite KO in a recent FightRoom interview, Aspinall stated, “Probably Pavlovich.” He explained his reasoning: “I took the fight on short notice, I wasn’t in shape, flew across the world. Like, everything was against me in that fight, and I still managed to do it.” He added context about his opponent: “At that time, Pavlovich was on a six-fight, first-round knockout streak. He was just smashing everybody. So, I think Pavlovich, for sure.”
Tom Aspinall is tired of waiting for Jon Jones
Since securing the interim belt against Pavlovich, Tom Aspinall has been on standby, anticipating a fight against Jon Jones to prove he is the best heavyweight in mixed martial arts.
Aspinall recently expressed considerable frustration regarding the ongoing delay in scheduling the fight with Jones, suggesting the undisputed champion might be avoiding the matchup. “Oh, I’m well bored of it. I’ve had enough,” he commented. Aspinall feels the situation needs resolution: “I think we either need to fight or I need to move on and do something else.” He concluded by mentioning a key date for news: “Literally, today is the day that I’ve been waiting 3-4 months for and I’m going to find out today.”
