The Calgary Flames have officially appointed Trent Cull as a full-time assistant coach, the team announced Friday.

In a related move, the Flames released assistant coach Dan Lambert. He was under contract for one more year but has been let go.

Cull`s tenure with the Flames began on an interim basis during the 2024-25 season. He stepped in when head coach Brad Larsen took a leave of absence from the club.

The team confirmed that Brad Larsen is scheduled to return for the 2025-26 season.

Before joining the NHL team temporarily on December 22, Cull had spent two years as the head coach of the Calgary Wranglers, the Flames` affiliate in the American Hockey League.

During his time assisting the main Flames squad, the team`s performance on the penalty kill saw significant improvement, rising from 29th place in the league rankings to 15th.
