Forward Christian Fischer Retires from NHL at 28

Christian Fischer has decided to conclude his professional hockey career.

The 28-year-old forward recently announced his retirement from the National Hockey League.

“It`s simply a decision to move forward into a new phase of my life,” Fischer stated. “While I wish there was a significant underlying reason, ultimately, I`m incredibly grateful for the career I had.”

Fischer, who hails from Chicago, mentioned his future plans include “a business opportunity within the golf world,” though he did not provide further details.

Fischer began his NHL journey as a second-round selection (32nd overall) by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2015 draft.

He made his league debut the following season at age 19 and remained with the Coyotes organization for parts of seven seasons.

Following his time in Arizona, Fischer played parts of two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. In March, he was placed on waivers and subsequently claimed by the Columbus Blue Jackets, appearing in one game for them.

Fischer`s career spanned a total of 523 games. During this period, he accumulated 62 goals and 75 assists, establishing a reputation as a reliable right winger in a bottom-six role.

His sole appearance in the Stanley Cup playoffs came with the Coyotes in 2020, where he recorded one assist across nine games.

“If someone had told me when I was 10 years old that I would play 500 games in the NHL, I would have been the happiest kid imaginable,” Fischer commented.
