Francis Ngannou Addresses Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has issued a statement regarding his connection to a deadly motorcycle crash in his native Cameroon that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl.

Reports indicate the incident took place over the Easter weekend in the Omnisports district of Yaounde, Cameroon. Ngannou was reportedly riding a motorcycle that collided with the young woman. While specific details are still emerging, the victim sustained injuries to her arm and leg. Ngannou is said to have quickly transported her to a nearby medical facility for urgent care.

Tragically, despite efforts to save her, the young woman passed away from her injuries at Yaounde General Hospital.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Ngannou shared, “From the very beginning, I have been by the family’s side, offering support, comfort, and deepest condolences during this time. I’ve met with them privately to share in their grief, and I will continue to stand with them every step of the way.”

He added, “I carry their pain with me, and my unwavering thoughts and support remain with them as they face this heartbreaking loss.”

Local Cameroonian authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

Ngannou, aged 38, last competed in combat sports in October when he made a successful PFL debut, securing a dominant first-round victory over Renan Ferreira. This marked his return to MMA after more than two years.

Before his PFL fight, Ngannou transitioned to boxing following his departure from the UFC, participating in high-profile bouts against Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

This accident adds to a difficult period for Ngannou, who recently shared the news of the sudden passing of his 15-month-old son, Kobe, in April 2024.
