Ilia Topuria, the former UFC featherweight champion, has indicated that he is open to the possibility of competing in the welterweight division.
Speaking at a recent press conference, Topuria addressed the potential move, stating:
“Moving to welterweight? Sure, why not?”
He explained that his decision would be influenced by fan interest and the presence of a challenging opponent, specifically mentioning a titleholder. Topuria emphasized his desire to entertain but also stressed the importance of being motivated by a challenge.
“I fight to entertain people. Obviously, I also need to be motivated by the challenge, so I do not close the door to welterweight,” he said, adding that he would agree “If an opportunity arises and there is an exciting fight.”
