Islanders sign forward Maxim Shabanov to one-year, entry-level contract

Highly-regarded KHL free agent Maxim Shabanov has signed with the New York Islanders.

The Islanders officially announced the signing of Shabanov to a one-year, entry-level deal on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old forward had a strong season last year with Traktor Chelyabinsk in the KHL, accumulating 67 points (23 goals, 44 assists) over 65 games. This performance marked new career bests for him in points, assists, and plus-minus rating (+17).

He continued his impressive play in the postseason, tallying 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 21 playoff contests as Traktor reached the Gagarin Cup Final. His 10 playoff goals and +14 plus-minus rating were KHL bests during the playoffs.

In his KHL career with Traktor Chelyabinsk, Shabanov has registered a total of 150 points (67 goals, 83 assists) in 207 regular-season games. He also has 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists) over 36 KHL playoff games.
