The New York Islanders have officially signed forward Victor Eklund, their first-round selection from the recent June draft, to a standard three-year, entry-level contract. The club made the announcement on Monday.
Eklund was the 16th overall pick by the Islanders in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
An 18-year-old prospect hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, Eklund recorded a total of 31 points, consisting of 19 goals and 12 assists, over 42 games for Djurgardens in Sweden`s HockeyAllsvenskan league during the previous season.
On the international stage, he has represented Sweden in the past two World Junior Championships, earning a bronze medal with the team in 2024.
The pick used to select Eklund, the 16th overall, was originally acquired by New York from the Montreal Canadiens. This selection, along with the 17th overall pick, was part of the trade package sent to Montreal in exchange for defenseman Noah Dobson.
