The captain of the Dallas Stars will remain with the team.
Jamie Benn has signed a one-year contract extension to continue playing for the Stars, the team announced Thursday.
The agreement features a base salary of $1 million, with the potential to increase to $4 million through performance bonuses.
Stars GM Jim Nill released a statement saying, “Jamie embodies everything it means to be a Dallas Star, and has since he was drafted 18 years ago. There was never a doubt that Jamie would return next season, and we are thrilled for both our organization and our fans that he will continue to lead our team in our pursuit of winning a championship.”
Benn, aged 35, has spent his entire professional career with Dallas, having been drafted in the fifth round in 2007. Throughout his 16 seasons, the veteran forward is just 44 points away from reaching the 1,000-point milestone.
In 1,192 regular-season games, the six-foot-three, 206-pound Benn has recorded 399 goals and 557 assists. He has also contributed 80 points (28 goals, 52 assists) in 120 playoff appearances.
