KHL: Clubs Extend Contracts with Key Players

An overview of key Kontinental Hockey League transfer news as of May 31st. Several clubs have announced new agreements with important players, securing their rosters for upcoming seasons.

Ak Bars confirmed the contract extension with forward Ilya Safonov. The new agreement is valid until the end of May 2026. In the past season (2024/2025), Safonov played 64 games for the club, scoring 32 (10 goals, 22 assists) points. In his KHL career, he has accumulated 322 matches, 57 goals, and 55 assists.

Lokomotiv Yaroslavl signed one-year contracts with two of their forwards – Maxim Berezkin and Stepan Nikulin. Both players were part of the team that won the Gagarin Cup last season. Berezkin played 87 games, recording 56 (24 goals, 32 assists) points. Nikulin appeared in 59 games, scoring nine goals and adding 15 assists.

Spartak Moscow signed a two-way contract with forward German Rubtsov. The agreement is effective until May 31, 2027. In the 2024/2025 season, Rubtsov participated in 76 games for the team, accumulating 28 (14 goals, 14 assists) points. His career KHL statistics include 217 games, 26 goals, and 31 assists.
