Former UFC heavyweight contender Mark Hunt was taken into custody in Sydney, Australia, on Wednesday, facing a domestic violence charge. The New Zealand-born mixed martial artist and kickboxer, nicknamed the “Super Samoan” and the “King of Walk-Offs,” was released on bail following his arrest on April 15.
Reports indicate that Hunt has been charged with one count of stalking or intimidation with the intent to inflict physical harm. According to an MMA Fighting report, the alleged victim was assisting Hunt with a task when he reportedly became aggressive. The accusation states that Hunt behaved in an “intimidating and berating manner,” causing the victim “fear and distress,” which prompted the involvement of law enforcement.
The police informed the court that Hunt allegedly sent the victim a death threat via text message, reportedly stating, “I’m just going to murder you in the end anyway.”
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Hunt’s legal representative indicated a likely guilty plea to the stalking and intimidation charge.
Hunt gained prominence for his tenure in the UFC from 2010 to 2018 and his victory in the 2001 K-1 World Grand Prix, establishing a reputation as a formidable heavyweight striker.
