Michael ‘Venom’ Page is set to make his return to the welterweight division this weekend at UFC London. Following a successful run at middleweight, Page will face off against former training partner and fellow British fighter, Sam Patterson, on his home soil.
Their highly anticipated bout is featured on the main card, positioned just before the co-main event, which will showcase a featherweight clash between Luke Riley and Michael Aswell.
The main event for UFC London will feature an important showdown between undefeated top contenders, Movsar Evloev and Lerone Murphy.
Page Addresses Not Co-Headlining UFC London
Previously, Michael ‘Venom’ Page voiced his disappointment regarding the UFC’s decision to match him with an unranked opponent. During media day, when questioned about whether he was disheartened by not securing a co-main event spot at UFC London, he responded:
“Again, it was part of the frustrations initially,” he acknowledged, drawing a parallel to his time in Bellator, “but no matter where you put me on the card, I am the main event.”
Asked if a significant victory this weekend would pave the way for a bout against a ranked and credible opponent – a challenge Page has faced with the UFC’s recent matchmaking tendencies – he expressed uncertainty:
“To be fair, I’m not sure. You never know. Things just change like the tides at sea,” Page stated. However, his focus remains clear: “But I’m always striving for a big KO. I’m always striving to entertain. I’m always striving to put highlight videos out to showcase how talented I am.”
‘Venom’ further elaborated that he consistently aims to create memorable moments inside the octagon. He believes he doesn’t need to actively pursue highlight-reel finishes, as they naturally arise from his distinctive fighting style.
Regarding his future aspirations within the UFC, Page mentioned his capability to even compete at light heavyweight. Nonetheless, his immediate focus is squarely on the welterweight title. He warned, however, that if top 170-pound fighters continue to avoid a confrontation, he might consider a return to the middleweight division.
He articulated his flexibility: “I seem to be capable of just going anywhere. So as long as people can get me some good fights, I kind of want to go there.” Acknowledging current difficulties, he added, “It seems to be a struggle at welterweight, but my goal is the welterweight title. If the guys here continue to not want to fight me, then I might have to go up back up again and look at the middleweight belt.”
