In Las Vegas, the Golden Knights have established a reputation over their eight NHL seasons, characterized by a strong sense of family, a winning mentality, and a distinct team culture.
These qualities aligned with what Mitch Marner was looking for, leading him to accept a sign-and-trade deal moving him from Toronto to Vegas. This marks his departure from the team that drafted him fourth overall in 2015, just two years before the Golden Knights` inception.
“Their consistent winning record over the past five years, indeed since the team began playing, was a key factor,” Marner stated at his introductory press conference on Tuesday.
He also mentioned discussing the city and living situation with former teammates Max Pacioretty and Ryan Reaves in recent weeks, noting that “the living arrangements seemed like a great fit for my wife, our new son, and myself.”
“Plus, the caliber of players here is outstanding. This is exactly where we wanted to land,” he added.
Naturally, the substantial eight-year contract valued at $96 million was also a significant factor in his decision.
