The NHL`s New York Rangers have secured their goaltending depth by announcing a contract extension with Dylan Garand.

The 23-year-old netminder has signed a new one-year deal. The specific financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Garand has spent the past three seasons primarily with the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers` AHL affiliate. Over 112 games in the American Hockey League, he recorded a .902 save percentage and a 2.92 goals-against average.

However, the past season proved to be the most successful for the Victoria native. In 39 games, he significantly improved his performance, posting a .913 save percentage and a 2.73 goals-against average, contributing to a strong 20-10-8 record for his team.

Standing at six-foot-one (185 cm) and weighing 176 pounds (80 kg), Garand was originally selected by the Rangers in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. His international experience includes representing Canada at the World Junior Championships in both 2021 and 2022, as well as participating in this year`s senior World Championship, further highlighting his potential and development.

This agreement officially registers as a re-signing, reaffirming Garand`s place within the Rangers organization.
