Montreal welcomes a new player sporting the iconic number 76. Forward Zack Bolduc, recently acquired by the Canadiens, will wear the jersey number previously popularized by beloved former player P.K. Subban.
Bolduc joined the Canadiens via a trade with the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, in exchange for defenseman Logan Mailloux.
He is only the third player in the history of the renowned Canadiens franchise to wear number 76, following Jozef Balej (in 2004) and P.K. Subban. Subban was the last to wear the number, playing for the Habs from 2010 to 2016.
The 22-year-old forward, a native of Trois-Rivières, Quebec, grew up supporting the Canadiens. He expressed mixed emotions upon learning of the trade.
Speaking via Zoom on Tuesday, Bolduc stated, “When he [Doug Armstrong] told me he had traded me to the Canadiens, I was a bit shocked. Extremely excited, but shocked, because honestly, it`s a childhood dream come true.”
Growing up, his dream would likely have involved watching players like Subban, considering Bolduc`s professional career began in 2019.
