Seattle Kraken Prospects to Watch This Preseason
The 2026-27 NHL season is approaching. Teams are finalizing rosters after rookie and training camps. The Seattle Kraken, aiming to rebound after missing the playoffs for three consecutive seasons, will focus on key players during the upcoming preseason.
Jagger Firkus
Drafted in 2022, Jagger Firkus has developed within the Kraken organization. After playing in the WHL and one playoff game with the Coachella Valley Firebirds in 2022-23, he spent the 2023-24 season with the Warriors. In 2024-25, Firkus achieved 36 points in 69 AHL games for the Firebirds. Last season, his performance improved to 56 points in 63 games.
With a strong AHL showing, Firkus is now aiming for an NHL spot. A good training camp and preseason could earn him a place on the opening night roster or a call-up opportunity due to injury. This 2026-27 season is a prime chance for Firkus, a top prospect, to make his NHL debut.
Oscar Fisker Molgaard
Oscar Fisker Molgaard debuted in the NHL on November 20th last season, recording an assist on Tye Kartye’s goal against the Chicago Blackhawks. His family traveled from Denmark to witness the event. He played 12 more NHL games, adding another assist.
Molgaard spent the remainder of the 2025-26 season with the Firebirds, contributing 36 points in 49 games. He also represented Denmark at the Winter Olympics, scoring three points in four games.
Following a promising NHL start, Molgaard is looking for another opportunity to make the NHL roster.
Nikke Kokko
Nikke Kokko has been the Kraken's primary goaltending prospect for two seasons. In 2024-25, he was called up to the Kraken and played the final 29:57 of a game, making two saves on six shots. At the end of the 2025-26 season, Kokko played in Seattle's last three games, securing a win against the Calgary Flames but facing losses against the Los Angeles Kings and Vegas Golden Knights.
Kokko will again start the 2026-27 season as the Firebirds’ main goaltender, known for consistent play. A call-up to the Kraken remains possible throughout the season, making his NHL experience at the end of last season valuable for his preparedness.
Kraken Preseason Opener
The Kraken begin their preseason on Saturday, September 19th, hosting the Vancouver Canucks. With only four preseason games scheduled for each NHL team this season, players have a limited window to impress and secure a spot on the opening night roster.
