Oilers gladly touch West trophy after Panthers stay hands-off in East

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid decided to break with superstition this time and happily got his hands on the Western Conference championship trophy.

McDavid touched the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl after the Oilers defeated the Dallas Stars 6-3 in Game 5 of the series on Thursday, securing their spot in the Stanley Cup Final, where they will face a rematch with the Florida Panthers.

Explaining his decision, McDavid highlighted the difference compared to last year: “I think it`s pretty obvious. Didn`t touch it last year – didn`t win. Touched it this year – hopefully we win.”
