Oilers’ hard-fought Game 2 comeback upended in double OT

2025 Stanley Cup Final

EDMONTON — Success in the Stanley Cup Final is seldom achieved easily. These two teams required nine periods of hockey to settle the initial two games of the series.

After suffering a tough 5-4 loss in double overtime during Game 2, the Edmonton Oilers will draw upon the significant experience they`ve accumulated from competing in 13 playoff series over the past four seasons.

The battle for the Stanley Cup is now a best-of-five series. There is no time for dwelling on disappointment.

“There`s going to be some disappointment,” acknowledged Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch. “But we`ve maintained the mindset, regardless of the outcome – whether it`s a poor performance, a close contest, an overtime game, a heartbreaking defeat, or an easy win – we move on from it and prepare for the next one.”

He elaborated on playoff lessons, stating, “You learn in the playoffs that circumstances don`t always favor you. Sometimes things work out in your advantage, and sometimes they don`t.”

With two games going to overtime, the series score could easily be 2-0 in favour of either team. However, a 1-1 tie as the series shifts to Florida feels like an accurate reflection of the competitive play witnessed throughout Games 1 and 2.
