In the latest episode of the “Na svyazi” (On Air) program, experts Andrey Yurtaev, Artyom Batrak, Evgeny Artyukhin, and Dynamo Moscow defenseman Daniil Pylenkov delved into the most current and hot topics from the world of the Continental Hockey League. Below is a textual summary of their key opinions and insightful answers to various questions.
The Performances of the “Shanghai Dragons” (Kunlun Red Star)
Daniil Pylenkov:
“The `Dragons` are a remarkably disciplined team, consistently employing a North American style of play, characterized by robust defense and effective offense, which undeniably makes them a formidable opponent. The sheer number of shots on goal against them isn`t always a true indicator of their game quality, as they consistently present a very decent showing. It`s crucial not to compare them to the previous iteration of Kunlun – these are different players and an entirely distinct style of hockey. In my view, they have shed their `outsider` status and are now strong contenders for a top-4 spot in their conference. In our second game against the `Dragons,` we didn`t implement any drastic tactical changes; we always adhere to our established style, merely refining our play by dissecting and minimizing any errors we made.”
Evgeny Artyukhin:
“Historically, Kunlun might have surprised teams at the beginning of the season when many opponents were still getting into their rhythm without adequate preparation. However, the situation has evolved significantly: they now boast more skilled and highly qualified players. We must acknowledge the tremendous effort put in by the head coach, who managed to forge a cohesive team in a remarkably short period. Their game is straightforward yet effective, built upon the North American style, which is clearly yielding positive results. Nevertheless, I anticipate that we might see a dip in their performance around December, given that their preseason training was quite curtailed.”
About Dynamo Moscow`s Goaltenders
Daniil Pylenkov:
“Within our team, there`s absolutely no discernible difference between our goaltenders; both are elite-level netminders – you can confidently play with either of them between the pipes. They are, quite simply, two genuine `walls`! Pod`yapolsky is physically a bit larger, while Motorygin is slightly more compact. I personally haven`t observed any significant distinctions in their playing styles or techniques. Naturally, if Vlad (Pod`yapolsky) finds himself facing 40 shots per game, he will, towards the latter stages, venture less out of his net to conserve vital energy. But that`s fundamentally our team`s collective shortcoming; we absolutely should not be allowing such a high volume of shots on our goal. Max (Motorygin), on the other hand, likely tends to come out of the net more frequently.”
Evgeny Kuznetsov`s First Games for Metallurg
Evgeny Artyukhin:
“Achieving a point per game is an undeniable mark of a truly `super-master`! For the entire League and, more importantly, for the fans, it`s absolutely fantastic to have the opportunity to witness a player of Kuznetsov`s caliber in action. For the younger players who share a line with him, it also serves as an immense source of motivation. Kuznetsov is poised to significantly bolster the team, both through his on-ice performance and his influence within the locker room. He will undoubtedly continue to develop and regain his optimal game fitness by consistently participating in matches. Coach Razin will strategically deploy him at center, on the potent power play, and will elevate him to the team`s premier lines. The paramount thing at this stage is to exercise patience.”
