Patchy Mix Released by PFL, Becomes Top MMA Free Agent

Patchy Mix has become the most prominent free agent currently available in combat sports.

The fighter, who recently held the Bellator bantamweight championship, gained his release following an announcement by PFL on Tuesday. PFL stated they would not be extending his contract, allowing him to explore options with other promotions.

In an official statement issued Tuesday, PFL officials confirmed, “Professional Fighters League and Patchy Mix have mutually agreed not to extend his contract. We both determined this is the optimal path forward for PFL and for him. Patchy is an excellent fighter, and we wish him success. PFL looks forward to crowning our next bantamweight champion in the PFL World Tournament.”

This announcement concludes a lengthy situation spanning several months. Mix had expressed frustration over inactivity, particularly after his scheduled fight against Leandro Higo last November was called off. Following that cancellation, Mix formally requested his release from PFL.

Since that period, Mix repeatedly expressed his dissatisfaction with PFL regarding his downtime. His most recent appearance in the cage was in late 2023, when he secured a victory against Magomed Magomedov in a rematch.

That win marked Mix`s seventh straight victory, improving his professional record to 20-1.

Regrettably, the prolonged period of inactivity, which prompted him to seek his release, prevented Mix from attempting to extend his win streak or defend his Bellator championship further.

It now seems both parties have reached a mutual understanding to separate.

It`s highly probable that the UFC will show immediate interest in Mix, given his status as the leading bantamweight fighter without a current promotional contract. Mix trains in Las Vegas, frequently working alongside the current UFC bantamweight champion, Merab Dvalishvili, and has previously stated his desire to compete under the UFC banner.

With his departure from PFL, it appears Mix may finally have the chance to pursue that opportunity.
