Rogers Communications Inc. Becomes Majority Owner of MLSE

Rogers Communications Inc. has finalized its acquisition of BCE`s 37.5 per cent ownership stake in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE).

This transaction makes Rogers the majority owner, now holding a 75 per cent stake in MLSE.

In a statement, Tony Staffieri, President and CEO of Rogers, commented, “MLSE is one of the most prestigious sports and entertainment organizations in the world and we’re proud to be the majority owner of these iconic sports teams.” He added, “Live sports are a core part of our business and core to the fans who live and breathe every moment.”

Over the past decade, Rogers has invested more than $15 billion in Canadian sports.

Edward Rogers, Executive Chair, affirmed the company`s commitment to success, stating, “We’re passionate about winning and we’re committed to bringing more championships to fans in Canada.”

MLSE`s portfolio includes prominent teams such as the Toronto Maple Leafs, Raptors, Argonauts, and Toronto FC, alongside other properties.

This acquisition expands Rogers` extensive sports portfolio, which already features the Toronto Blue Jays, Rogers Centre, and Sportsnet.

Rogers also recently secured a 12-year extension for the Canadian media rights to the NHL.

The transaction was completed effective Tuesday, following the receipt of all necessary regulatory and league approvals.
