
The Seattle Kraken have secured their first-round selection from the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
On Thursday, the team announced they have officially signed forward Jake O`Brien to a three-year, entry-level contract. The deal carries an average annual value of $975,000.
O`Brien, an 18-year-old prospect, was chosen eighth overall in the draft held this past June.
Kraken General Manager Jason Botterill commented on the signing in the team`s news release, stating, “We`re excited to get Jake signed to his first professional contract. Jake has elite vision and hockey IQ, tremendous work ethic and a strong two-way game. He understands this is just the beginning. We`re looking forward to his continued development.”
Last season, playing his second year with the Brantford Bulldogs in the OHL, O`Brien registered an impressive 98 points, including 32 goals and 66 assists, across 66 regular-season games.
The Toronto native also contributed three goals and eight assists in 11 OHL playoff contests.
