The San Jose Sharks have bolstered their goaltending depth by signing Jakub Skarek to a one-year contract worth $775,000.
Skarek, previously an unrestricted free agent, played his first NHL games this past season for the New York Islanders, appearing in two contests where he posted an 0-1-0 record, a 3.94 goals-against average, and a .872 save percentage.
The 25-year-old Czech netminder spent most of the year with the Bridgeport Islanders in the AHL, recording a 5-13-1 record, a 3.52 GAA, an .884 save percentage, and one shutout in 22 games.
Sharks general manager Mike Grier commented on the signing, stating, “Jakub brings a wealth of professional experience for his age. He is a large, athletic goaltender with strong competitiveness.”
Skarek was originally a third-round pick (72nd overall) of the Islanders in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
