Stars Trade Dumba, Draft Pick to Penguins for Kolyachonok

After playing for a decade with Minnesota, defenseman Matt Dumba is now set to join his fourth NHL team in the past two years.

The Dallas Stars have announced they traded Dumba and a second-round selection in the 2028 NHL Entry Draft to the Pittsburgh Penguins. In return, Dallas receives fellow blue-liner Vladislav Kolyachonok, as confirmed by both organizations on Thursday.

Dumba is entering the final year of the two-year contract, valued at $7.5 million, that he signed with the Stars.

Last season, the 30-year-old recorded one goal and nine assists for a total of 10 points across 63 regular-season games. However, he did not feature in the team`s playoff games.

Standing six-foot-one, the Regina, Saskatchewan native has accumulated 84 goals and 174 assists, totaling 258 points over his 737-game NHL career. His previous stops include the Minnesota Wild, Arizona Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Dallas Stars.

Dumba was originally selected seventh overall by the Wild in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Kolyachonok, aged 24, was acquired by Pittsburgh off waivers from the Utah organization in February. He combined for two goals and five assists in 35 games across his time with both teams last season.

The Belarusian defenseman has four goals and 14 assists, accumulating 18 points in 74 career NHL games played for the two organizations.

He is entering the final season of his contract, which carries a salary cap hit of $775,000. This provides significant salary cap relief for the Dallas Stars compared to Dumba`s $3.75 million cap hit.
