Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland offered his perspective on the upcoming bout between the current titleholder Dricus Du Plessis and undefeated challenger Khamzat Chimaev, expressing confidence that Du Plessis has the tools to secure the victory.
“Chimaev knows how to wrestle. I’ve trained against guys like him for years, and I could usually counter and wrestle with them. So I’m just unsure if Dricus can offer anything against his wrestling. But if he can, I think he’ll win, no problem. I’ve sparred with this Chechen. I certainly think Dricus will win. It all depends on whether he can stop Chimaev’s takedowns and apply counter-wrestling, but it’s not difficult,” Strickland stated during an interview with Helen Yee.
Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev are scheduled to meet on August 17th. Their middleweight championship fight will serve as the main event for UFC 319, taking place in Chicago, USA.
