Alex Pereira Mocks Ciryl Gane's Champion Status Post-Aspinall Vacation

Alex Pereira has publicly questioned Ciryl Gane's potential claim to the undisputed heavyweight title, following Tom Aspinall's decision to vacate the belt.

Tom Aspinall recently announced he is stepping away from his championship duties to recover from eye injuries. He hasn't competed since his bout with Ciryl Gane ended in a no-contest at UFC 321.

With Aspinall's departure, Gane is expected to be elevated to undisputed champion. He had previously secured the interim title earlier this year at UFC Freedom 250 by defeating Alex Pereira via TKO.

Since their fight, Pereira has repeatedly alleged that Gane employed illegal tactics, specifically striking the back of his head multiple times. While referee Herb Dean has been a frequent target of Pereira's criticism, Gane has also faced accusations.

Following the significant development in the heavyweight division, Pereira dismissed the idea of Gane becoming the undisputed champion.

Pereira Reiterates Grievances Against Gane

Pereira shared his thoughts on social media, appearing to ridicule Gane's potential championship status. He referenced Gane's past losses to Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones, and what he described as a "daylight robbery" against Alexander Volkov, in addition to the "10 illegal head shots to Poatan" during their fight.

He added, "Champion [LAUGHS]."

Gane has not yet responded to Pereira's latest comments.

It remains to be seen if the UFC will promote Gane directly or opt for a different path, potentially stripping him of his interim title and having him fight for the vacant belt. Potential opponents for Gane could include Josh Hokit or Alexander Volkov.

Despite his loss to Gane, a rematch is still a possibility. Pereira recently met with UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell to discuss his future fights, expressing optimism about the discussion.
