Alexandre Pantoja Issues Direct Warning to Joshua Van Ahead of UFC 331 Rematch
Alexandre Pantoja issued a forceful warning to Joshua Van leading up to their UFC 331 rematch.
Their first encounter last December at UFC 323 concluded abruptly after 26 seconds due to Pantoja sustaining an arm injury. This premature stoppage not only ended the fight prematurely but also Pantoja's championship reign. For UFC 331, Pantoja enters as a +106 underdog, while the current champion is favored at -136 on FanDuel.
Despite the outcome of their initial fight, Pantoja anticipates avenging the loss in a definitive contest, free from injuries. He aims to finish Van and regain the flyweight title.
“Joshua Van possesses a distinctive fighting style; he's a perfect fit for this new generation," Pantoja stated on UFC 331 Countdown. "However, I'm an old-school fighter, with nearly 20 years of experience. That's a significant advantage. I'm a well-rounded fighter with multiple paths to victory. My focus is entirely on what I must do to win this world title. The Cannibal is prepared to devour Joshua Van."
Pantoja's declaration carries a stark warning: he intends to "eat Van alive" to reclaim his flyweight belt. He also believes UFC 331 will definitively reveal whether Van is a true champion or if his previous win was solely due to the injury.
“Joshua Van, you are skilled. You hold the world championship and are considered the best. But on September 19th, when the Octagon doors close, we will ascertain if you are the genuine world champion,” Pantoja added.
A victory for Pantoja would further solidify his status among the greatest flyweights in history. However, defeating Van presents a considerable challenge; Van boasts a 17-2 record and is on a seven-fight winning streak.
