Ilia Topuria medically cleared, accuses Justin Gaethje of cheating at UFC Freedom 250
Ilia Topuria announced he has received medical clearance to return to fighting. Following his first career loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC Freedom 250, Topuria also made accusations regarding Gaethje's conduct during their fight.
Gaethje defeated Topuria by TKO in a corner stoppage on the White House lawn, taking the undisputed lightweight championship. Since then, Gaethje has been non-committal about his future in the Octagon, hinting at retirement.
Potential future matchups for the lightweight title include fights against Arman Tsarukyan or Mauricio Ruffy. Topuria’s own return is anticipated, though reports previously suggested he had not yet resumed training due to multiple orbital fractures.
In recent social media posts, Topuria stated he has been cleared by doctors and alleged Gaethje gained an unfair advantage by tampering with his gloves at UFC Freedom 250.
"Final medical tests done. I’m back," Topuria posted. "To all the clowns who’ve been talking s— and counting me out this whole time, here I am. Now let’s see who’s got the balls."
He continued, "Thanks to everyone for the support. Next time I’ll make sure they check Justin’s gloves so he doesn’t put anything weird on them. See you soon. By the way Justin, f— you. And Ali [Abdelaziz], f— you too."
Tsarukyan and Ruffy are scheduled to fight this Saturday at UFC 331. Gaethje has publicly stated he will not grant Topuria an immediate rematch, though UFC CEO Dana White has not closed the door on the possibility.
As of now, there is no evidence to support Topuria’s claims that Gaethje tampered with his gloves. Gaethje and his team have not yet responded to these allegations.
