Longtime UFC play-by-play announcer Jon Anik believes that welterweight contender Ian Machado Garry is not receiving the fan recognition he deserves, especially with his upcoming title shot at UFC 330 against Islam Makhachev.

Garry is set to challenge Makhachev, who is aiming to extend his impressive winning streak and surpass Anderson Silva's record. Despite Garry's strong performances in the octagon, he has faced significant fan criticism, much of which stems from issues outside of his fighting career, as evident from his cool reception at the UFC 330 press conference.

Anik, speaking on "The Anik & Florian Podcast," addressed the negative sentiment surrounding Garry. He stated that many fans overlook Garry's fighting prowess due to a focus on personal matters and his wife.

"He really has been underappreciated by every pocket of this fanbase that would rather focus on his wife and other things," Anik commented on Garry.

Anik acknowledged that Garry's behavior in certain situations, like dominating fighter meetings or overstaying interview time, could be seen negatively. However, he strongly supports Garry's talent and career trajectory.

"But I absolutely love him and when I look at his legacy on paper, the loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov was wicked competitive. He’s 17-1, he’s put in all the right work, he’s aligned with Diego Lima and Charles Oliveira," Anik continued, emphasizing Garry's accomplishments. "I just feel like he’s done so many things right and everybody focuses on maybe some things he hasn’t done well verbally."
