Vegas Goaltender Samsonov Could Return to KHL

Information has emerged about the potential return of Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Ilya Samsonov to Russia. This information was confirmed by the player`s agent, Sergey Isakov.

“I`m not ready to give a precise percentage chance of Samsonov returning to the KHL yet, but we are actively exploring various options,” commented Isakov.

Isakov also noted that Samsonov`s KHL rights belong to Metallurg Magnitogorsk, a club that already has a strong goaltender in Ilya Nabokov.

“The question of Samsonov`s future will still be discussed with various parties, including the management of Metallurg,” the agent added. “It`s too early to talk about a specific club. Ilya`s priority is to secure consistent playing time in the upcoming season.”

Recall that Ilya Samsonov has been playing overseas since 2019: from 2019 to 2022 he played for the Washington Capitals, and from 2022 to 2024 for the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the summer of 2024, the goaltender joined the Vegas Golden Knights.

In a recent NHL season, the goaltender played 29 games, earned 16 wins, posted a save percentage of 89.1%, and a goals-against average of 2.82.
