Veteran fighters Jorge Masvidal and Dustin Poirier have offered their expert opinions on the upcoming second bout between Conor McGregor and Max Holloway, slated for UFC 329.
Dana White recently confirmed that McGregor will make his return to the octagon after a five-year absence to face Holloway in the main event during International Fight Week. This welterweight clash is scheduled for five rounds.
Following his extensive break from competition, McGregor has been positioned as the underdog by oddsmakers.
Now, both Poirier, who has faced both Holloway and McGregor multiple times, and former BMF titleholder Masvidal have weighed in on how this rematch might unfold.
Masvidal and Poirier’s Predictions for McGregor vs. Holloway 2
In a conversation with UFC on Paramount+, Jorge Masvidal expressed his belief that McGregor will be easily defeated by Holloway at UFC 329. He stated:
“I think Max smokes him like a brisket.”
Dustin Poirier added his perspective:
“I think Conor has the power. That’s not gonna [disappear]. No matter the injury, that is going to be there still. The timing and a lot of other things matter, but the power is gonna be there.”
Masvidal further elaborated, suggesting that the difference in lifestyles between McGregor and Holloway could significantly favor Holloway. He pointed out that Holloway has remained consistently dedicated to the sport, has been highly active in recent years, faces few distractions, and trains daily. In contrast, McGregor is involved in numerous business ventures, maintains a luxurious lifestyle, and has only recently recommenced training.
“It’s also the lifestyle. I think Conor lives a certain lifestyle we’ve all seen and you can tell it’s not for show and it’s really his lifestyle… Max lives a completely different lifestyle. I’ve never seen Max at the club drunk. You never see him in the headlines for anything bad. That guy lives a different life where he is in the gym, family, gym family… I think that’s gonna pay the biggest dividends. Cause you can be away from the sport for five years and come back like nothing happened, if you live that life.”
