Khamzat Chimaev remains unfazed by the escalating verbal sparring with upcoming opponent Sean Strickland, particularly in light of Strickland’s recent threats involving firearms. The two fighters are set to headline UFC 328 on May 9th.
The rivalry between Chimaev, known as “Borz,” and Strickland has become increasingly personal. Strickland recently declared he would shoot anyone who approached him with malicious intent, responding to Chimaev’s taunt that he would flee before their bout. However, Chimaev appears unconcerned by these statements.
During a media availability for UFC 328, Chimaev downplayed Strickland’s gun threats, displaying no apprehension and delivering a counter-warning. “I don’t know. We’ll see what’s going to happen over there. For me, the same sh*t,” Chimaev stated. “Clowns always talk. He’s not going to be a clown if he’s quiet… Bro, he didn’t shoot any chickens in the world, bro. How is he going to shoot the human. I don’t know. I don’t think so. If the guy wants a real war outside of the cage. So, if he wanted, he’d be dead already.”
To prevent any potential incidents, UFC CEO Dana White has confirmed an increased security presence throughout UFC 328 fight week to ensure the fighters remain separated until their octagon encounter. Consequently, a scheduled pre-fight faceoff with Paramount has been canceled to avoid further escalation of the already tense situation.
Chimaev, who boasts an undefeated 9-0 record in the UFC, including victories over notable opponents like Robert Whittaker and Kamaru Usman, recently secured the middleweight title from Dricus Du Plessis via unanimous decision at UFC 319 in August 2025. Strickland enters the fight on the back of a knockout victory against Anthony Hernandez at UFC Houston in February, carrying a 17-7 record with significant wins over fighters such as Paulo Costa and Israel Adesanya.
