Matt Hughes Loses Fingertip in Accident, Shares Hospital Photo

Former UFC welterweight champion and Hall of Famer Matt Hughes has sustained a hand injury, reportedly resulting in the loss of a fingertip.

While the exact circumstances of the incident remain undisclosed, the fighter, known as “Country Boy,” posted a picture on his Instagram account from a hospital visit. Accompanying the image, he quipped, “Luckily, God’s been real good to me… He left me nine more to work with.”

Hughes is widely recognized as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time. He is a two-time former UFC Welterweight Champion and has been inducted into both the UFC Hall of Fame and the NJCAA Hall of Fame. During his illustrious UFC career, Hughes achieved two six-fight winning streaks, dominating the welterweight division.

This incident follows a previous serious injury in June 2017, when Hughes suffered a severe head injury after his truck was struck by a train. He spent 19 days in a medically induced coma following what he described as a “worst brain injury possible”—a Grade 3 diffuse axonal brain injury.
