Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has entered into a significant cloud computing agreement with UK-based Nscale, an AI infrastructure provider, valued at approximately $45 billion. This substantial deal will see Anthropic lease around 460 megawatts of compute capacity from an Nscale data center development in West Virginia. The facility, slated for operation by the end of 2027, will enable Anthropic to utilize advanced Nvidia Vera Rubin chips.
The agreement addresses the increasing strain on Anthropic's infrastructure due to the surging demand for its Claude AI models and products. Previously, the company acknowledged that this demand had impacted the reliability and performance of its services, particularly during peak usage times. In response, Anthropic has been actively pursuing various infrastructure partnerships, including previous agreements with Advanced Micro Devices, SpaceX, Google, and Broadcom.
This development comes as Anthropic, facing intense competition from rivals like OpenAI and Google, prepares for a potential initial public offering. The company confidentially submitted its IPO prospectus to the Securities and Exchange Commission in June and has begun preliminary discussions with investors. Anthropic is under pressure to validate its significant valuation to the market, making its infrastructure strategy a key component of its investor narrative.
