Arman Tsarukyan: UFC Fears I'll Depart with the Belt
UFC standout Arman Tsarukyan suggests that the promotion harbors concerns about him potentially vacating the organization once he secures the lightweight championship.
For a considerable period, Tsarukyan has been actively campaigning for a shot at the UFC lightweight title. However, the promotion, particularly Dana White, appears reluctant to grant him this opportunity, partly attributed to some of his off-cage actions.
Despite his undeniable skill as a fighter, Arman Tsarukyan occasionally hinders his own progress. Nevertheless, he remains active through grappling competitions, continuously striving for the chance to challenge the victor of the upcoming Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje bout.
In a recent interview, Tsarukyan shared an intriguing perspective on the UFC's stance regarding his future within the organization.
"They are apprehensive that I might win the title and then leave the UFC," Tsarukyan explained. "But where would I go if I become champion? My ambition is to be the best within the UFC and remain with the company, as they have played a crucial role in my development and elevated me to star status."
He further elaborated on his aspirations: "I aim to become champion, set new records in our lightweight division, and defend the title as many times as possible. Islam Makhachev defended it four times; I aspire to achieve five or six defenses. I'm no longer in my early twenties, being 29, so I likely have about 5-6 prime years left. During this time, I need to earn substantial money, hold the championship, establish myself as the world's top fighter, and then consider my departure."
With his immense talent, it is anticipated that Arman Tsarukyan will soon get his long-awaited opportunity to face either Topuria or Gaethje. Regardless of the opponent, he is poised to be a significant force in the 155-pound division for the foreseeable future.
