Bitcoin Poised for 20% Weekly Gain Amid Renewed Investor Optimism

Early Friday, Bitcoin was positioned for a weekly gain of about 20%, propelled by a series of favorable events for the leading cryptocurrency. The digital asset was trading at $75,343.01, a notable increase from its starting point of $62,836.88 at the week's commencement. This positive trend was mirrored in the performance of related crypto stocks on Thursday, with Coinbase and Circle closing up 7.5% and 6.45% respectively, while Strategy saw a 7.8% rise.

The upward momentum began on Wednesday, triggered by a significant pullback in Treasury yields following the Treasury's decisive intervention in the bond market. This action eased the pressure on riskier assets, creating a more favorable environment for cryptocurrencies.

This shift contributed to a broader influx into the crypto market, which was further amplified by a substantial short squeeze. According to CoinGlass, approximately $2.7 billion worth of crypto short positions were liquidated, significantly boosting the rally.

According to Max Stuedlein, Head of Partnerships at Sygnum APAC, Bitcoin's recent performance is a result of converging macroeconomic and policy factors. He noted that the Treasury's decision to double its buybacks of long-dated government debt is an effort to address concerns over long-term yields, where rising borrowing costs were driven by worries about U.S. debt levels and the impact of large-scale debt issuances.

Investor sentiment received an additional boost on Thursday, largely due to a final push from the White House and crypto industry leaders to advance the Clarity Act in the coming weeks. Although this bill is considered a crucial catalyst that could help the market recover from its recent downturn, its chances of passage are reportedly slim.

Despite the recent surge, Bitcoin's price remains below its mid-January peak of $94,820 for 2026 and its all-time high of $126,198, reached on October 6 of the previous year.
