The upcoming BKFC 90 event on May 30th will feature a highly anticipated bout for the BKFC interim welterweight championship between Connor Tierney and Rico Franco. LT Nelson, a fighter with a history against Franco, has shared his insights on this significant matchup.
Nelson, who recently defended his BKB middleweight title with a knockout victory, previously defeated Rico Franco in their bare-knuckle boxing encounter at BYB 10 in May 2022. This fight was significant as Franco was already an established competitor, having won BKB’s Prizefighter lightweight tournament. Notably, Franco had previously stopped Connor Tierney with a first-round knockout at BKB 16 in March 2019.
When asked about the upcoming rematch between Tierney and Franco, Nelson expressed his thoughts, stating that while he doesn’t follow every detail closely, he recognizes Franco as a determined fighter who continuously improves. Nelson admitted he doesn’t know much about Connor Tierney but has heard positive remarks about him.
Regarding the BKFC interim title clash at 165 pounds, Nelson predicted a different kind of fight. He believes both Tierney and Franco will engage in a technical, toe-to-toe battle, highlighting their solid boxing skills. Nelson anticipates a significant display of power and believes Franco, whom he describes as a “G” with many skills, has the capability to win.
