Marlon Moraes, a former UFC title contender whose mixed martial arts career concluded with a series of knockout losses, has embarked on a new path of public service as a police officer in Florida. Moraes joined the Coral Springs Police Department in May 2024, a year after retiring from professional fighting following a first-round knockout defeat to Gabriel Braga at PFL 4 in June 2023.
Known by his fight name “Magic,” Moraes is now patrolling the streets of South Florida on the night shift. He shared with CBS News that his primary motivation for joining the police force is a desire to assist and support the community. “Every time I go to work, I want to help someone,” Moraes stated. “When the call comes, I want to be the one.”
Ryan Gallagher, deputy chief of the Coral Springs Police Department, spoke highly of Moraes, commending his professionalism and dedication to serving the public. “I found a professional, compassionate, charismatic individual who wants to serve the community,” Gallagher remarked.
Marlon Moraes’ UFC Record
Marlon Moraes competed in the UFC from June 2017 to March 2022. After a split-decision loss in his debut against Raphael Assuncao at UFC 212, Moraes achieved a four-fight winning streak, securing significant victories over Aljamain Sterling and John Dodson, which led to a bantamweight title shot.
However, his championship aspirations were dashed when he was defeated by Henry Cejudo via third-round knockout at UFC 238 in June 2019. Later that year, Moraes secured the last win of his career against Jose Aldo.
Following this victory, Moraes went on a challenging seven-fight knockout skid across both the UFC and PFL before retiring. His overall professional record stands at 23 wins, 13 losses, and 1 draw, with a 5–6 record during his time in the UFC.
